Bank and Charges
Everything you need to know about Bank Charges
It is had to believe how many different fees banks charge these days. I mean in some cases you have to pay to see a bank teller. How absurd is that? And while banks are being greedy and adding on fees for everything, there is still a way you can save some money. How you ask?
Shop Around For Bank Account
Well the first thing you should do is shop around. Small, local banks rarely have the same fees and big nationwide banks such as Bank of America. So go around and pick up brochures from a few banks in your area. Take the brochures home and read over them. Compare the good and bad of each bank (I can assure you they all have bad and good sides) You can also get online and find out what others have to say about each bank.
Check Before You Use CashPoint Manchine or ATM
The second way you can save money on bank charges is to always use ATM's that are owned by your bank. Some banks have accounts where they will reimburse you for any ATM fees you are charged. If you don't have that option make sure you are using an ATM that is either owned by your bank or has very low fees.
Check Your Bank Statements
You should also make it a point to check your bank statement on a regular basis. I suggest logging in to your account at least once a week. At the end of the day banks are run by human beings and human beings are known to make mistakes. Check to ensure there are no extra charges on your account that shouldn't be there.
AVOID Bank Charges
If your bank charges to see a teller, avoid doing so. These days you can handle just about everything online. And what you can't handle online you can call customer care for help. This way you can avoid those little small fees that can creep up on you.
Link Your Account Together
If you have multiple accounts such as a checking account, a savings account and a money market account, link them all together. Set up automatic transfer so you can avoid any accounts going into the red. Some banks will even allow you to link to a credit card. Cash advances on a credit are usually 10 times cheaper than overdraft charges from a bank.
Purchase Travellers Cheque Before Holiday
And last but not least, if you are someone who travels a lot, find out if there are any currency conversion fees that you should be aware of. If there are you might want to go old school and purchase travelers checks before you travel.
